Val Emmich is blowing up… on prime time network TV.

It’s Thursday, which means Ugly Betty is on! I’ve been particularly interested in this season, since Val Emmich started showing up as Betty’s new neighbor.

Why so?

Val is one of the upcoming artists I’ve been keeping my eye on the past few weeks. He’s been getting ready to release his CD Little Daggers, and is being featured a bunch on network TV.

You may remember him as Tina Fey’s teenage boyfriend on the “Cougars” episode of 30 Rock.

So, Val’s new character is “Jesse,” Betty’s neighbor. He’s a rock singer (how’s that for typecasting!) who first popped on the screen during the season premiere. In that episode, he covered Tom Petty’s “American Girl,” a cover that he also added to his MySpace page.

Val’s UB appearance is proving to be killer exposure – that Petty cover received 5,100 plays last week on his MySpace page, and he’s sold over 1,500 downloads on iTunes, especially the single “Get on With It.”

To think about it, 5 minutes of acting and 30 seconds of singing on a prime time network show might just be the best thing that could have happened to his career! Man, I should be on television.

Val’s character shows up again on October 30th and again on November 13th. My sources report that on the November 13th episode, Val will perform with his real band on the show.  Pretty sweet.

That said, I have to go catch up on the details tonight. I’ll keep you updated.
